Solange Knowles combines motifs like bold dutch wax prints and florals with the same ease that most people use to throw on jeans and a t-shirt.
I have always fancied a good pattern mash up. My favorite pattern combos involve playing with texture and pairing basic patterns (i.e. stripes or polka dots) with more complex prints (i.e. animal prints, plaids, florals or ikat).
The key to mixing prints: Match up similar scales and create a harmonious color palette so that the “clashing” patterns make sense.
