Meet The Muse-Emijaa Jaaemil

After leaving Emijaa Jaaemil’s eponymous blog I had a serious case of hair envy and a curiosity about her spot on style. I was thrilled to learn that Emijaa’s fashion m.o. involves working her hair as an accessory and reinterpreting corporate dress codes. Oh, and she handcrafts unique jewelry too!

Check out what Emijaa had to say about personal style, blogging and what she’s looking forward to wearing this spring!

In a few words, how would you describe your personal style?

If I had to describe my style, I’d say “Urban Chic”.  I love to play around with mixing styles, I’m kinda “experimental” and daring when it comes to clothing – the possibilities are endless so why not see what you can come up with! I love versatility – so thats kinda how I dress.

Has blogging changed the way you think about getting dressed?

Blogging has definitely changed the way I think/feel about getting dressed.  I work in the corporate world {9-5}, so I have to challenge myself to dress “corporate appropriate” but also stay true to what makes me happy.  I have to say, I probably break a lot of rules in the “corporate dress code of conduct” but so far they haven’t sent me home! lol I definitely put more thought into what I wear because I have an audience now – I want them to always see me at my best and staying true to what they see on the blog.  I definitely take more risks – thats the fun part. Thinking outside the box and allowing your imagination to run wild {not too wild though, I still want to look well put together} - I think it would be too easy if I worked in an industry where I could wear whatever I wanted…

Is your personal style reflected in your jewelry designs?

I would say my personal style is DEFINITELY reflected in my jewelry designs.  I need versatility.  I don’t like to buy things that can only be worn one way, with one item, one time… So I design with that in mind. I want my customer to know that she is purchasing an item that can be worn with many different things…  I’d consider my jewelry to be “Conservative Urban Chic” lol {Loud with color and design but yet simple and delicate}  I want my jewelry to stand out – I’m one of a kind – I want my jewelry to be as well.

I read that you think of your hair as an accessory (love that!) What other items or accessories do you consider to be your signature pieces?

Since going natural my hair is definitely an accessory – I’ve always switched up my hair styles {I get bored easily} – so going natural has provided me with the opportunity to explore different styles – I think I switch up my hair as often as I do shoes, bags, and/or jewelry. I feel like your hair can make or break a look same as a pair of shoes, bag or the jewelry you choose.  As far as other signature pieces – I’d have to say – my jewelry and sky high heels… You will almost always find me wearing my jewelry and high heels – I feel naked without them!  My mom is the same way so I’m starting to believe I inherited this from her… lol.

If we were to tag along on a trip to your favorite stores (or online shops) where would we end up?

Honestly, I don’t have “favorite” stores – I shop according to what I can afford and what I happen to come across at the time and I’m lazy so I shop where its convenient and quick - IF I HAD TO CHOOSE – some of my faves would most likely be: Zara, H&M, Forever 21 {for trendy inexpensive pieces}, Old Navy {I get a lot of basics}, Target, Madewell, Asos – all the “typical” spots – I believe in shopping anywhere as long as you find something you LOVE…

What are you looking forward to rocking this spring?

I want to try more color – colored denim, bright seperates, pattern mixing and of course lots of dresses.  I love wearing dresses!

I think it’s awesome that she uses hair as an accessory. It’s such a great way to work in your natural hair into a look. Love it! I also love that she makes her own jewelry and they’re so cute too. Bold style too. Just great!
